Pressure held for that long would be in the gage itself, not the saw. There is a special schroeder type valve (tire valve) in the spark hole adapter of the gage that will retain the pressure long enough to read. The saw itself will leak down in seconds even brand new.

Have you pressure tested the carb? Do you still have the old parts from your carb? I remember see a post somewhere where some new kits, the diaphragm post was not the same height as the originals, causing fuel woes. Just a possibility.

Yes I had to reorder a carb kit with the shorter post when I saw the original kit I received had the longer post on it. I think I have another carb here. I may change them out & see what happens. The saw has plenty of spark just no fuel being drawn into the yellow tygon fuel line to the carburetor.

Sounds like it's going lean. As a test, will it stay running at 1/2 choke? If so lean for sure.

It will run about 30 seconds good then rpm's will all of a sudden inrease or surge then it dies from what seems lack of gas. but it will restart right up again & do the same thing again. Thanks for help.

Mike, Does this saw have a SDC-54A(C) in it? The carb IPL shows a removable jet (.028), have you checked that?

SDC-54B has the one low jet I guess a fixed high speed.

Well drawing fuel starts right up but runs 30 seconds & dies, then you you can start it right up again. Any other suggestions ?

Leave gas cap off, does it still die?

Left cap off but got same results. I'm going to sell this & 12 other saws all homelites soon. It's a wife thing, lol

I will say I saw the carburetor insulator gasket has some cracks in it & a little warped. Could this be my problem with surging? Maybe sucking air around it?
