540’s used 2 different carburetors. The east coast version used a fixed jet with high speed trim. West coast version used a fully adjustable. Not sure what the 8800 uses. (In terms of adjustability)

Do you know what other model carb was other than the WJ24?

Could you explain why they used these 2 style carbs,i.e.west coast was fully adjustable & east coast was fixed.Usually the east coast is more lenient in terms of pollution.Usually the west coast (Ca.) is more stringent towards pollution because of the smog problems.

Elevation in the terrain, the higher the elevation, the more adjustability is needed.

Then the adjustablity factor was needed in Rocky Mtn.states & Ca.& PNW for the Sierra Nevada & Cascades.(i've probably missed a couple mtn.ranges like Sierra Madre)

This 8800 definitely has a fully adjustable carburetor, but I didn't look at the series number.

Nope, the gaskets and diaphragms were good. They only trouble was the passage from the fuel inlet to the metering needle was plugged with varnish. Once that was clear, she fired easily.

Well it was a burn day Saturday, so we hung around a little lower and cleaned up a bunch of slash. No big Madrone in the area, but I fell a 10-11" bone dry Doug Fir and was able to make a short video of a few cuts. I'm using a 30" bar and .404" chain that I put a decent square grind on...I'm still learning that technique, but I had to be close as the saw cuts quite well!
