I just took a Google tour and I see there is a Wilson Street in Napoleon, Indiana. Is that a coincidence? I am hoping you have a story to tell us about it chainsawlady. The history of the Homelite sign for sale on E-Bay: Sometime in the 60's or 70's my husband had some 12x12" signs made. I remember we ordered 100 but don't remember who made them. When they came we decided not to give them to our customers to put them up on there buildings or fence posts, so we spent several Sundays going to them and got permission to put them up. I think before they were all gone we may have given them when they were in our shop. I know I had one left a few years ago but couldn't remember to whom I gave it to. My grandson was here today and said I gave it to him the past year. Also another history of my past about the street in Napoleon of Wilson. I grew up on a 100 acre farm west of Napoleon on the Millhousen Road. Spent 5 years in Indianapolis working for the Internal Revenue, married and moved back to my family farm. My husband grew up north of Madison. When he was a junior in high school, the government bought a lot of farming ground The Proving Ground. It was used by the army to test ammuniton, during WW2. As we had wood heat for old log house, my husband decided to buy a chain saw. I had never heard of chain saw, and didn't approve of spending $500 for one new Homelite 26LCS and a shoe box of parts for $500. However it did he anyhow, and we started a small business and it mushroomed as did the dealership of Ashley stoves. Napoleon is 1=1/2 miles away and there was a McCulloch dealer there. When we started some of their employees wouldn't tell people wanting to get to our place. I knew Napoleon had a street named Wilson, but someone checking where the name came from and it was a Wilson of my husbands ancestry. I suppose I could write a book, about growing up with Homelite and many interesting stories have came back to me since being on the chain saw forums. This grandson helped me learn enough about the internet and gave me user name chainsawlady,so he will keep the only good sign that is in good shape. chainsawlady

Dang it Joyce, that is a great story and that he has the sign. If there were a hundred of them, there may be a few more floating around the county yet.
I noticed that some of the other streets around town are named after presidents, I believe that you are the First Lady of Homelite!

Does anybody here intend to bid on this? If not, I may have to if for no other reason tha nto preserve history! I cannot bid, very tight cash at the moment. I could likely squeeze a contribution to help preserve it however. My proposal would be that I send you $20 and you keep the sign, anyone else?

I'm not going to bid. Just stumbled across it and thought it would be of interest.

I don't think the sign is worth anywhere near what he wants. He probably found it in a junk pile sometime. Brookville is only about 40 miles from me, but I doubt if it is owned by an ex customer of ours. chainsawlady

Well, if you bought 100, I doubt you paid $100 each. BUT, it is worth what someone is willing to pay and they pay crazy prices for old signs these days. If it was not so rusty, just a few holes and a bent corner, I can see it prices at $400-$500 and selling fast. Nuts. I love it though, if I had not just bought a firetruck, I think I would be bidding.
Maybe you could call around some of your old customers nearby. They might give you a sign or two that you could sell yourself! There are several here interested.
