Hi All, picked up a junk Super XL,cleaned it up,got it running, however I can't get the carb adjusted,I took the carb apart and it was clean inside so I reassembled it,turning the low speed jet all the way in has no affect on performance, seems to blow raw fuel and a wet grey smoke, carb is a SCD 8ðŸ˜

When they dry out and get stiff, they'll never work as they should. With that being said, a running poorly condition doesn't "always" mean a carburetor problem per se. There is always the possibility of a sealing issue; crank seal, intake gasket, reed valves, etc. Unfortunately, you have to start somewhere and the carb kit is the easiest to do first. Good luck, Steve

A bad crank seal usually causes the opposite of what you are describing...usually the air leak causes the saw to run too lean. It sounds like your fuel inlet lever under the metering diaphragm is set too high. When resting, it should be basically level or slightly below the deck surface of the carburetor. Carb gasket kits are very easy to come by for all carbs used on the Super XL, especially on Ebay. You'll need to ID your brand of carb though as parts don't interchange between the three (Tillotson HS, Walbro SDC and Zama H2S).
