i was given an XL2 auto saw that hasn't been run in 20 years. I put a new carb kit, fuel filter and gas line on the saw. It would fire once then it would flood itself out and wouldn't re-fire. I pulled the carb back apart and bent the "fork" which controls the needle valve. It started right up and ran ok, I then put bar oil in the tank to check the oiler to see it was working. Started the saw up and it started to smoke and blow oil out of the exhaust. I pulled the spark plug and literally dumped oil out of the cylinder. My question is could the oil lines be crossed on the pump housing ? I installed new oil lines and a duck bill valve on the oil line closest to the top of the tank. I put the lines back the way I pulled them off but they may have been wrong when I got it. I'm thinking of changing the oil pump diaphragm but not sure if this will stop the oil from getting into the crankcase. Does anyone have a picture or diagram of how the oil lines should be hooked up ? Also where should I start with the carb setting on the high speed jet ? This carb only has the idle screw adjustment and 1 jet adjustment(HDC-15). thank you for the help Steve

Hi Steve, Your oil lines are definitely crossed on the engine. I've found so many saws like that, it's not even funny! The bad news is you'll likely have to take the engine back out of the case to fix this situation...there just isn't much room to work with it in the case. The hose with the filter on it should connect closest to the flywheel, that is the inlet port for the final feed to the bar pad. The hose with the duckbill should connect over near the oil pump diaphragm. On those single screw carbs, the high speed jet is fixed, so you treat the single screw like you would any other low speed screw. I like to set it at about 1 1/2 turns open and tune from there. I've got IPL's posted on my website, here's one I'm guessing is about right for your XL-2 based on your carburetor: XL-2 Parts ListIf you look at page 4, part #27 is where you should connect your oil hose with the pickup filter.
