My friend gave me his Homelite 18" UT10S74 chainsaw without a manual. I could not find this model online - think it was made 10-99. The primer bulb split so like a good shade-tree mechanic I took it apart and ordered a new one. Problem is I didn't take any pictures and forgot how the lines reconnect. In the process I also broke the long line with the filter coming from the tank. I replaced that with some .80 line from the local auto parts store. There are two lines coming from the tank, a long one with the filter and a shorter one w/o a filter. I can get it to fire up but it won't stay running. I'm thinking I have the fuel circuits mixed up as the primer bulb will run dry. Can anyone enlighten me to the proper routing of the lines? There's two line coming from the tank, two lines into the bulb and two lines going into the carb. Thanks in advance for any advice.

The long line w/filter is the "supply" to the carb fuel pump chamber. The short line exiting the carb is the "suction" for the primer bulb. The shorter line going back to the tank is the return line. Thus from the filter pickup to the end of the tank return line is a 1 direction path (check valve in the bulb, and flapper valves on the carb pump diaphragm) so the carb fuel pump and metering chamber are "full" of fuel when you go to start it. As long as the bulb shows fuel passing through it and squirting it back into the tank return line end, you have things correct. This design (assuming the rest of the engine is healthy) usually means it should fire/start on the first pull with the choke on.
