Hi I'm new to this forum but it looks like you guys have a lot of experience with 2 cycle engines. I needed to replace the piston, ring and cylinder on the subject Homelite blower. I have all the new parts but my question is where do I need to position the ring gap on the piston so it doesn't interfere with the ports? The piston has no markings or dowel to hold the gap in place. I have the service manual for this blower but there is no mention of any factory position to use. It says install the new ring gap in the same position as the old ring gap. In my case that doesn't help since my old ring was scored and damaged (not sure if I want to use that same position). Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
