Thanks for the info, I would like to restore my Dads C5 but I can't use the crankcase as when my Dad got to where he couldn't do anything in the early to mid 80's it was stored in a damp basement so the piston seized and the crankcase started to crumble between the intake and cylinder. He passed away in 1990. I found another crankcase so I guess the next thing would be a cylinder and piston but they seem to be few and far between. I have an ad in the 'Wanted' section so I might get super lucky. Looks like I might can use the cylinder and piston from a C51 also (I hope).

The biggest difference between 'em is the C5 used a Fairbanks-Morse type starter and the C51 used the overrunning bearing type. Also, pretty sure all C5s came originally with a stack exhaust, but some C51s I think started using the regular mufflers. Not positive on this, but seems like was the case. Of course mufflers could be changed along the way also.

Hey great Steve!!! Christmas in april. I looked and the C51 has a tillotson HL carb. Just what I worked on today on my 707D. I opened a diaphragm kit and didn't even need it. I looked on acres site and it says the flywheel side is ball bearing and the drive is needles..?..just the opposite of the 707 which appears to have a massive double ball bearing on the drive side. Now my main curiosity is your C5 a morse type starter? From the pix it looks like the C51 is a morse. Nothing I have is that type. My 5-30, 7-19C and 707D are all homelite ball starter.
