I am in the process of repairing an EZ. The old fuel was not removed from the tank which is crudded up. What is the best solvent to use to clean all the flaky, dried varnish in the tank?

I don't have a LOT of experience with the problem but I have used a few ounces of gasoline, sloshed and dumped a couple of times to remove oil left behind when the gas evaporates. I have also use acetone, a few ounces in the tank for a few hours. Others here have reported using a handful of small clean hex nuts with a little gas, slosh vigorously and dump, then flush. Hopefully someone with more time in this job will have more to offer. Good Luck, Dan

Yup, Thats what I use some gas and any small hardware! Sometimes I stuff a pair of cotton underwear into the tank too! (Clean of course.) Just to wipe the tank out a little. Lol.

I'm facing the problem with this Wiz tank, I think a quick run through the blasting cabinet is in order. This tank soaked in the solvent tank overnight with no change. Attachments:

The blasting cabinet couldn't remove the crud either.

Varnish or brush paint remover with methylene chloride (it will be listed as one of the ingredients will soften and remove all gas varnish as well as the original paint and destroy all plastic and rubber parts. It is also frequently one of the ingredients in dip type carb cleaners (not spray cans). Spray off with a garden hose after, and air blow dry. Been using this for over 30 years. read the label -health risk if you have a bad heart.
