I am new to the forum. I have an old Homelite XL923, serial# 3388158. The chainsaw was used very little since it was bought in the 70's. No fuel is being drawn into engine. the plug is dry. If I give a small squirt of fuel into the plug hole, it will run for a few seconds. I have overhauled and cleaned out the Tillitson carb but that did not change anything. The saw was always stored w/o fuel. The tank is clean, the fuel filterand lines are clean and free flowing. I can easily blow thru these.Compression and ignition are also good.

did you reset and check the metering side of carb. If the metering lever is to low it wont suck enough fuel up.

My XL98, similar to a 925 I think, had a small split in the fuel line inside the tank. It blew clear fine but would not suck fuel. It was securely connected to the fitting on both ends but the split allowed air in. I found it by connecting a vaccum pump to the carb end, it would not hold vaccum with the far end plugged. It would not pull fuel.

Thanks for all the suggestions. The problem is solved. There was several holes in the fuel line under a retaining clip which was all under the chain, clutch cover. The 35 year old Homelite, which has not been started in 15 plus years, roars again. Sweepleader nailed it !

Now if I could just get my XL98 to run again. Bought it a few weeks back, cleared the rings with acetone/atf, put in a carb kit and spark plug and it ran, great. Searched for belt, pulley, clutch drum, (thanks Duwayne at Parkinlube), put those on, now it won't start again! Oh well, I will have to look deeper. Glad yours works!
