Has anyone ever looked up the proper red and green colors for this saw in the past? I'm restoring one, and trying to find matching paint, or something close to it. Thanks. Chris

The red paint used on all Homelite saws was supplied by two manufacturers that I know of: Martin Senour and DuPont. Martin Senour's "Homelite Red" is Crossfire #10742 DuPont"s "Homelite Red" is #2622A Centari Acrylic Enamel. I also have the Martin Senour number for the green metallic used on earlier saws (10804 Crossfire enamel) but have been unable to determine the manufacturer and number for the blue metallic used on most models of Homelite saws that weren"t red. Any help in that respect would be greatly appreciated. Michael Read more: houseofhomelite.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=tech&thread=3147&page=1#21647#ixzz2HeQQ6Pz2

I found my local hardware store still mixed acrylic enamel paints by the quart, and did not charge for the mixing or matching. I had to bring him the side cover of my Poulan Green chainsaw, and he matched it up pefectly. They have an electronic scanner that gives them the paint mix, it was amazing, and so good that I just touched up the scrapes and scratches. I am sure the larger Home Hardware stores have them same capability, Just a thought. Oh he labeled the paint mix "Poulan Green" , too funny.

If you buy Paint fro TSC (Tractor Supply) don't buy the "Majik" brand, buy Van Sickle brand, and if you can buy naptha for reducer and poly converter for hardener, that way you can spray with a small touch up gun and get pro results. Rattle cans are able to spray because the paint is highly reduced with Xylene which reduces the ability of the paint to withstand oil and gas as well as retain shine. The little touch up cun holds around 6-8 ounces and a 3/4 full mix will paint a saw several times. I like to shoot 2-3 light coats waiting just enough time for the paint to tack dry when recoating. Painting is like weaving, the more molecules you get that bind together the stronger it is, by spraying over tacky paint the next coat locks into the previous coat.

Xylene also reduces the ability of the person spraying it to reproduce or have any sort of memory beyond middle age.
