Hello let me start by saying hello and this is my first post on here so here goes. My wife bought me a homelite xl model number 10618A for $5. I love to tinker with stuff and well this needs very little done. I only cleaned it up and put a new plug in it and well 8 pulls later bam fired right awesome I thought but then no oil coming out to bar so I know you need it. Well i'll sum it up now i have taken it all apart and found out that i believe that my problem lies in the pump body but how do you take the pump body out. I cant blow air tru the line going to the fitting behind the bar. I think you should be able too right. Well if anyone can help me or tell me how to take it out i would love it. One more question which should be easier what size bar should be one the saw? Well thanks.

Hi, Here is a picture of the oiling system for those XL saws with a diaphragm pump. Uploaded with ImageShack.usIf you have the pump diaphragm out of the pump body you should be able to get air to flow from the bar port back to the pump. Does your saw have a metal pipe from the pump to the bar port?

Hello yea I will take a pic and upload tonight. You are correct the port going to the bar can't get any air thru it even with the diaphragm taken off. The other two connections are free and clear so I feel this is where my problem is. Last answer is yes it is metal connection going to the bar. Thanks for the pic I'll have to use this tonight for looking at mine. How do you or can u take that spring and ball bearing out from it it's stuck pretty good?

I got that backwards. You cannot have air flow from the bar port to the pump because the check ball will prevent that. You should get air flow from the pump to the port through the pump body but disconnect and block the pressure line that goes to the tank. Go easy on the air though.

Ok thanks I have to order a new gasket that has that rod but once I get that together I'll write back on here for ya. So your saying too that that pump body should not move or let me take it out right?

Do not remove the pump body unless you are absolutely sure it is worn.

Ok so just makeing sure it can be but shouldnt be removed until last resort. Ok well I'm getting out of work now and I'll run home and test out the system u have described above. I don't have a proper bar or chain for it yet I was looking on eBay and see 14" bar and chains for it that's a size it can handle or came with right??

Oh I know I don't have a new diaphragm installed but I did try your testing out and I couldnt get air to come out tru the connection going to the bar. I pinched off the one line going back to tank and blew in the one that is the oil pick up tube. Is there any way to see what else I could test for or look at where next??

Do you have the diaphragm and pump piston removed from the saw? The piston, the long rod connected to the diaphragm, will prevent you from getting air through the system.

Yea I reassumbled it and tried to test it. So your saying of I have everything put back together I won't be able to tell until I can have the motor running too? I just put fresh hose on it and tried to blow tru it with my mouth cause I didn't have a small enough psi device to use. Hmmmm so I'll try it out with a new diaphragm and piston and run the motor and see if I can feel it pumping out.
