Tom, any chance what your seeing is due to the outlawing of DDT? In the 60's DDT became a big problem in this country for larger avian species as it made their egg shells brittle and thin. We are not even really rural here (Philly Suburbs) but in the last 15 years we have regained species that were gone from this area. We now have nesting bald eagles at a local park and I have red tailed hawks, Cooper hawks, sharp shinned hawks and various other species in my yard. Trenton NJ has many pairs of Peregrine falcons mating on the ledges of buildings, dive bombing pigeons.

Could be the banning of DDT have made numbers go up and spread accross the country. We have eagles soaring high above around here also. Have a few pictures and hope to get better ones this year. They attacked a lot of snow geese flying over!! LOL They left a lot of down feathers out in the fields. There are probably a lot more chemicals and sprays that should be banned that are not safe for wild life or us ;D Tom
