We all like pictures as they add some color and they are worth a thousand words. They are sometimes the only way to describe a problem or identify a part. Pictures of restored Homelites or Homelite collections are always of interest. Posting a picture in a message can be a challenge but after you do a few and acquire the knack, it goes rather quickly.
Pictures are either stored on the ProBoard server that is the host to House of Homelite or they are on one of the many free image hosting sites such as: Flickr, Photobucket, or Keep and Share.
Pictures copied to the ProBoard server must fit in purchased space that the admin has to pay for, it is preferred that pictures be stored on an image hosting site and linked to the House of Homelite.
These are key points that need to be adhered to:
There is no need for high resolution pictures - they are large files and can take a while to load. Remember, not everyone has super high-speed internet.
Large pictures affect the viewing of threads and the 20 Most Recent. When viewing a thread with a large picture the whole thread is set to the picture size so to read or view the entire tread you must use the horizontal scroll bar.
• Set your camera resolution to something close to 2 mega pixels or less.
• Preview your message before you post it and check to see if it is too large and requires the use of horizontal scrolling to view.
• Learn how to re-size a picture.
Here are three methods for adding pictures to a posting, neither will work to put a picture in a personal message:
1. This method can be used to post a picture stored at an image hosting site such as Flickr (this example will describe the steps for Flickr other hosting sites are similar) and is free to the Admin, thus it is the preferred method.
The Admin has said he prefers pictures to be posted rather than not posted, even if it costs him. The right thing to do is to use this method and save his money for his family.
Start your post by using the "Reply" button in the upper right corner of the message window, not the "Quick Reply" button near the bottom left.
Type your post in the message window that opens.
(Moderator sweepleader note: I can no longer verify that this method works as I have closed my Flickr account as of mid 2019. If you have information on this method as to its function, please pass that along, thanks.)
Open Flickr and go to your camera roll, drag and drop your photo from your computer file to your camera roll. A window will appear showing the uploading progress. Click on the "Refresh" button there in the upper right when the upload is done. Your pictures will appear at the top of the camera roll window.
Click on Albums and click on an existing album or, make a new album, name it, drag the new photos there and save.
Click on “Open Album Page” on the lower left of the album page, its grey and small OR go back to Albums and click on the new album with the picture you want.
Click on the photo you want to be in your post, it will open and a curved arrow pointing up and to the right will appear in the lower right corner.
Click on the arrow.
Select the size you want to use for the picture in your post, 640 x480 works well.
Click on "BBCode" and copy the link in the center of the window. Paste it in your post. If the link does not work correctly go back and make sure you got it all when you copied it.
This will show up as an imbedded picture in your post.
You can edit off your name on the end of the BBcode if you like.
If the picture is too large, delete it (or the link) and re-size your picture before you add it back in.

3. Postimage postimages.org/ Use the "Hot link for forums:" in the "Share" option after you have uploaded your pictures.
4. This method will post a picture stored on your computer. This is the method that costs the Admin for storage.
The picture can be inserted where you place the cursor now or it can be inserted at the end of your post. If you have more than one photo and you want to put a caption by each, type up the caption and place your cursor where you want the pic inserted.
Again, use the “Reply” button, not “Quick Reply”. When the message window opens, put your cursor in the post where you want the picture to be. Click the button that says, "Add Attachment" and then the "+Add Files" button. Browse your computer for the picture you want. Select the picture or pictures you want and click “Open”.
Your picture will load to the “Add Attachment” window and the file size will appear. If it is too large, delete it from the “Add Attachment” window and resize it before you reload it to the forum. Now if you click “Insert”, your picture will be inserted where you left the cursor in your post. If you click “Done” your picture will be added at the end of your post. You can still edit your post to try again if you don’t like how it looks.
You can add up to 5 files (pics) with a maximum total of 2mb. If the total is too large the “Add Attachment” window will close without posting anything. When attaching multiple pics, if you hit all the insert buttons, it will put in the pics horizontally on the screen. If you hit insert then enter (insert, enter, insert, enter, insert, enter) it will put them vertically on the screen.
If you have pictures already on a server, that site will usually provide links similar to the Flickr site. Just copy and paste them into your message posting. If you know the Direct Link, copy and paste it into your message, then highlight, then click the Picture Tag above. img in brackets will be added to the link.
There are two threads on this board that show the same picture, but one has not been re-sized. Be sure to view those threads.
