I have really good spark and fuel coming into the cylinder. It will fire for a moment but will not run.

So I was on ebay last night, which I really shouldn't be because I buy something I every time I look, and bought another VI Super 2. The saw is in beautiful condition. I'm guessing the problem with other saw is it might not have good spark under compression, just a thought. I did replace the coil some time back with a new one and the saw ran fine.

How's the compression? It may not be a bad idea to do a compression test. You can have fuel & great spark, but without compression you're up the creek.

Compression came in at 120 psi. When I first got the saw the compression was over 160. Something happened when it locked up on me and broke both starter pawls. I took the muffler off and every thing looked super clean. There is a nick in the top of the piston, I don't know if that caused an issue.

Did you check or replace the flywheel / crank key? If it locked up while running and broke the starter paws, could have damaged the key or where it sets in the grove in crank.

I did check the key when I replaced the fly wheel. I talked to my neighbor, the one who gave me the chainsaws and he said to use the coil that was paired with the replacement fly wheel. It worked, fired on first pull and I gave it throttle to full rpm and no issue. I had an after market coil on there, maybe it just became weak. There is still the mystery of when the saw locked up when I was trying to start it and why did the compression drop so much. I'll continue using the saw and see what happens.

Spoke too soon. It ran great for a minute then just died again. Tried a different spark plug and no luck. Will not fire at all.

So I have the saw electrically jerry rigged, extremely jerry rigged. I can't put into words what I have done, but the saw fired and ran. It's 9pm here so I don't want to keep it running and test it. I'll do it at 8am tomorrow.

Kill switch wire or the kill switch was the issue. Saw runs fine now. Had it idling for several minutes at full rpm a few times. Shut it off and started it several times. Time will tell if that is the fix.

The switch isn't the issue very often but it does happen. Probably one of the last things we think of many times when having an issue.

It died again. Slow death, like slowly losing fuel and yes the tank was full. Will not start. Happened yesterday morning, tried again today, no start.
