I've got a red Super XL-12 Auto that I just got going and I'm having a little problem - the chain keeps turning when the saw is idling, yes, I've adjusted the idle down lower and it still does it. I replaced the clutch drum sprocket with an Oregon #30681, I also replaced the bearing. I checked with the saw not running and the drum is free, so am I correct in assuming that there is a broken spring in the clutch? It has a cover over it so you can't see the springs from the outside. What's the best way to remove the clutch? I don't have the correct spanner wrench. Any help is much appreciated. Matt

Hi Matt!
It sounds like you may have a broken or weak spring in the clutch, thats assuming you have your idle set low enough, but I think you would know that.
IIRC there is two/three holes in the clutch hub that are used to secure the cover on.
You can place screws in these holes and span them with a bar to remove the clutch, given that you use enough common sence to....
#1 not use the screws that were holding the cover on as youll need to re use them.
#2 not use so much force that you snap the screws off in their holes as you will need to re use the holes also.
The most effective way is also the safest, but more time consuming.
Get a piece of 1/4" X 1" steel and drill two holes that match the distance between the two bolt holes and use this in the same method as above.
This will let you tighten the screws down on the strap and lessen the chance of breaking them off.
I believe the clutch is held on with "L" hand threads.
Eric.
