I fully understand this is a saw site but sone many of us are also into guns I thought I would ask. I am looking for a few specific guns. As for shotguns I am looking for Winchester model 12's and 1897's. Also all 10 gauges. As for pistols I am looking for a Ruger single six 22cal, as for rifles I am always looking for small caliber rifles. One common old 22 cal that I want is a tube fed Westernfield (Wards) bolt action from the 1960's.

I've been told my grandfather had a 10 gauge double barrel. Don't remember seeing it though. I can remember the bruises from shooting the 12 gauge double barrel and my father would tell me the 10 gauge would make that feel like shooting a 410!

I never did shoot a 10gauge, pulled off several two barrlled shots from the 12 though! I've got an old Stevens 12 single I cut down to 18" and a pistol grip, nice little "snake gun" when fishing, but boy she kicks!!! ID still like to find me a 410 "coach gun".

I do not have a 10 gauge so when I do get one I may wish I hadn't. As for a kick I have a side by side Savage Fox with double triggers. When you let them both go you know it. I believe Mossberg made a old bolt action 10 gauge that was clip fed. This was odd for a shotgun. I believe it had a 36" barrel. I wish I could find one .

I have a buddy that has a bolt action 12 gauge, I forget the make it was ordered through Sears years and years ago. I think it holds three in the mag? He's grown scared of it and wants to get rid of it now.

Bill, feel free to post whatever you want. OT or the Wrecking room would be the appropriate places for threads like this, with the full on shoot/gut/cook threads going into the W-Room. Heres a place I have been shopping lately.... www.joesalter.com/index.html Nice site, lots to browse through and some interesting things you never knew you wanted. His prices are all over the place, so buy whats cheap first, then try to haggle with him for the rest. ;D Customer service is EXCELLENT!!!

I have a similar shotgun, Bolt action, 3 round mag. But it's a JC Higgins, I thought that it came from Sears as their 'brand' Or was J C Higgins a brand on its own? It's an accurate sucker, just a bead sight, but it will put a slug in the center of a paper plate at 50...go figure?

No, CSW hit this one, it is a J. C. Higgens!! I just couldn't remeber off the top of my head. I have no idea of it's accuracy though, he's afraid to shoot it, and it doesn't travel well with his wife attached to it He's a bit hen-pecked!

Years ago the many guns were cheap and everyone was willing to sell them. I am sure we all have stories that would turn a stomach today. Dad has a 300 Savage rifle that was bought in bar in the early 70's. It was basically new. I bet he gave the price of a couple cases of beer now. I bought an old Winchester from a kid years ago for $35. I am in no way whatsoever a gun collector. I just want to pick up a few special guns to me. I have tried gunbroker.com but that is just out of this world.

BJJB, Have that gun checked out by a gunsmith to see if it's safe ( I don't have any reason to think that it wouldn't be). Then offer him 20 bucks for it. It would be a good gun to keep behind the seat of your truck, although you might have to clean out all the beer cans from back there first! Spilled beer takes off bluing ;D CSW

There's nothing wrong with the gun, he's just chicken, and wants a pistol so thats his sales pitch to the wife "I't's not safe honey!" I think he's going to try and take it to a gun show and sell/trade it for a .357mag. I have no idea what they go for, but I figure about any gauge is worth $75-$100. CSW: I have plenty of things to throw behind/under the seat already, if I get another gauge it will be a double .410 'cause I think they are fun to shoot, and I want another shot when that squirel comes runing out of the nest I just blew up ;D

BJJB, you can buy a new Rossi for $100, the combo for slightly more. Low ball him, realistically the gun as a shooter it's probably worth $50 dollars. The gun has no value as a collectors item.

I went to an overnight stag party for my nephew on Fri. at my bil's camp in Little Valley, NY . We all got there at about noon, and were able to put a couple hundred rounds through the guns/shotguns before the keg was tapped. Two of the .22s were mine, I paid $20 each for them. One is a Marlin Glenfield semi-auto tupe feed, the other is an old J C Higgins bolt action with a 3/4 inch scope. I love that gun!! there's no bluing left on it, the stock is ratty and all dinged up, but it shoots a 1 inch group at 50 yds! It was a ton of fun shooting with the family...good stuff. I stuck with the beer all night and was thankful in the morning... just a mild hang-over, CSW

I found a pair of Savage 412F .410 tubes that insert into a 20 bore. Anyone got any idea what Model Savage they fit, or their value. Their both near mint and I paid $10. for the pair. I got an old Sterlingworth (A.H.Fox), a low 4 digit Winchester 75, a Ruger red eagle 3 digit .22 auto and afew others in my collection.

Say Hello to my little fren! This here is a .40 caliber High Point Carbine. It fires the .40 S&W rounds and is supposed to be a blast to shoot. I snagged this pup at a gunshow this week for $180 and got 2 mags and a soft Carbine case with it. I also bought 200rds of Russian WOLF ;D Ammo for it, only to find out some people think these will shoot anything but Wolf..... Others swear theyll chuck anything you can fit in the mag....As long as its .40S&w. Their supposed to be extremely accurate up to 100yrds (its a pistol round afterall) but that is Carbine territory in my book anyhow. I cant wait to get it to the range!!!!! This one had two boxes of ammo through it and the previous owner didnt think it worked right, so he sold it to me for cheap. Everything I have read has said that you need to put 300-400 rounds through them before they break in, so well see. They come with a lifetime warranty, wether your the first or the tenth owner and most people love theirs. Seems some Gun snob types dont like them, but they dont like A/K's either for many of the same reasons. And as with the A/K, its either a love it/Hate it design wise. I think it looks pretty cool, it certainly handles nice. Hell, if its accurate and chucks lead down range Im happy. They come from the plant with a nice peep site and there are 100K people on the internet making hop up goodies for them. Hooded front and Peep sites..... As far as its worthyness as a short range weapon, Im going to have to go with my gut, and the sheer mass of devotees of these, gun snobs be damned. The firing range will tell the tale.
