What does the air deflector do on a C51? Looking at the parts diagram it attaches to the base of the muffler, but I cannot wrap my head around what it’s there for. Is it redirecting air from the flywheel to the muffler for cooling? imgur.com/a/P0A0C3qNext question, has anyone ever compared running the stack muffler on a C51 to the other muffler? Is there a difference in power at all? I’ve been seeing mixed info/opinions on this.

Hello emma, and welcome! Don't take this as gospel, but my understanding is the deflector is indeed directing the air from the flywheel, but more for the fins on that side of the cylinder. Regarding the difference in performance between a stack and a chambered muffler, can't say for sure. There is an obvious difference in the noise level though! The mufflers on Cs don't seem to be very restrictive, so I'm guessing a performance increase may be more psychological since it sure does sound more powerful. Again, just my hunch, I've never did a swap and do a test cut to see if there's any measurable difference.
