My saw was leaking gas and when I looked for leak I found duck bill missing. I ordered new one and want to know when it arrives does the duck bill face inside the tank or outside. Might be a silly question and might be obvious when it arrives but thanks in advance for help.

It goes in from outside of tank, with duck bill facing in.

Thanks for the quick reply and now I have two more questions Is the duckbill for the gas and the oil the same part? Can the pick up screen inside the oil tank get plugged as can barely blow any air through it?

Both answers are yes. How are the hose in oil tank? Hard / gummy? Check that the serrated fitting is in line coming in at top of tank. If, it is missing, turn saw upside down, shake it to see if it fell off in tank.

You should also check the filter for the duckbill, on the little XL saws, it is glued to the starter housing. It is there to keep the duckbill in place and to keep sawdust out of it. If it is missing or degraded, one can be made from a foam air filter.

Another saw I am working on a XL2 Automatic is not oiling chain and I have found the steel tube that takes oil to the chain is plugged and before I break something how do I get that tube off to clean it. The last time I used it was up north cutting moose into quarters and I use canola oil for the chain then let it sit for years and all oil lines were plugged solid. I have used high pressure air with no luck. they look like they are just pressed in.

I popped one end of the tube off and blew it out but the blockage seem to be the housing that the oil goes to from the tank and the other end goes to the tube and the chain. I have tried blowing through and spraying brake clean through but no luck.

I just downloaded it and is there a plunger of some sort in that housing that could get gummed up?

I just downloaded it and is there a plunger of some sort in that housing that could get gummed up? Yes. Remove the oil pump cover, inspect that the diaphragm/plunger can move freely back 'n forth and that the check ball spring pushes the plunger out after pressing it in.

I removed the cover and the diaphragm/plunger was seized and I got that out but now the oil pump body is seized in the housing. I have tried compressed air and some gentle tapping but no luck so will soak in penetrating oil overnight and see if free next day.

Oil pump body is a press fit into the housing, removal not necessary unless check-ball cannot be freed up and ports cleared.
