I just bought a 925 super XL recently And have a fuel line kit and carb kit to put in it. My problem is the tank is full of black sludge from the previous fuel line I think? My question is how do I get the sludge out or what is the best way to clean it?

Go to search at top of page. Search for, cleaning out a varnished tank, using all words. I know your post says black goo, but some good ideas there. Read all of the post's. Keeping in mind that most tanks or saw parts, are made of magnesium.

Boiling water from a kettle and dish soap is a good start. Acetone is the next step that use. It takes persistent and motivation but if you keep at it you’ll get it clean after a few cycles!

I've had Several XL900 series tanks that were coated with a black rubbery material. At first I thought some one used one of those products that coat a leaking tank. But, after the third or fourth one, I think it was factory. I had one saw the stuff was still intact. I got a thin scraper in the crack and had to take an exacto knife and slice the stuff to get the tank in half.
