Earlier today I had an Oregon chain that was giving me fits. The chain was clearly marked 72 wich is the .050 gauge chain.I tried 3 different bars,an Oregon D176 & 2 Mac D176 bars, with the same results.I couldn't get the drive links to fit in the slot between the rails,it didn't want to go around the sprocket tip either. Finally I put a different chain on & all was good. The chain was clearly an .058 gauge which should've been stamped 73.I know my eyes aren't the best, but I can still discern the difference between a 2 & a 3.I suppose when I contact Oregon about their screw up it'll fall on deaf ears. They'll want proof of purchase with the original receipt,etc.,etc.

Was this a new chain or used? If used, drive links might be damaged. A micrometer will confirm the gauge.
