i replaced the muffler body gasket (68542).
didn't use any permatex or such. it leaks a bit, certainly not like it was with the old gasket that was torn, the fuelmix that is, still leaks a bit now. probably a little too rich mix but that issue will be another question soon.
i tightened the two baffler (A-68564) bolts fairly tight, but, is it recommended i use some gasket sealer on the muffler gasket?

I never have. I never thought they were meant to be a 100% seal. Many mufflers don't even incorporate a gasket at all.

Even if there is some leaking around the muffler base, don't think it'll hurt anything besides getting the saw grimy around the leak, but to correct it, make sure the base of the muffler is flat. If it's not, find a piece of flat metal or hard wood, sit the base down and use a flat faced punch, or improvise with an old socket extension or something that'll reach down inside and let you hammer it from above. You may be able to hit it flat just with a hammer.... haven't messed with a 150 muffler in awhile now. 150s are a great saw. Lots of people don't like them, but lots do, personally think they're a great saw.

it must be around 40yo and sat most of that time. i now have gotten it mostly rebuilt and running with some tweaks remaining. seems like a great lil saw.
good idea i'll check the base flatness. thanks much.
