So for the hell of it I ordered some after market pistons from chainsawr, I mean for 9.50 for a xl-12 piston why not have a look, ordered one of those and a 2" piston Cor a c-51 one for 19.12$ well also have nos homelite pistons for both of those.. All I can say is wow! The aftermarket ones are 0.009" smaller than oem with is a butt ton.. So buyer beware anyone looking for a "deal"

I used their Super EZ piston for a Super Mini rebuild. Been running it as my main campfire saw for a couple summers now. Works good. Doesn’t have the highest compression though. Around 155 psi. For $20 it does the trick.

I'm sure not all of them are bad, their 2" xl-700- 9xx seems to be the right size, but this xl-12 piston is horrible, might throw it into a saw just to measure compression for the hell of it

The rings will make the most difference; a slightly undersized piston will rock in the bore a bit as it warms up (think early 2000's Chevy 5.3L's) but if the rings are properly sized, the compression should still be good.

This week I'm gonna pull apart an xl-12 and throw it in, I'm curious, and it's still winter nothing better to do

That will be interesting. An .009 clearance is fairly substantial. I'm sure it'll run, probably run fine but I wonder if it'll be noisy at all.
