My brother is having trouble starting his two saws. I think it may be his fuel mix. He uses Stihl two cycle oil. Then he is adding some kind of fuel stabilizer and some kind of octane enhancer. I think he is adding too much stuf. Wondering what you experts think. Thanks in advance.

The fuel stabilizer is a good thing, but the octane boost is a waste of money. These saws (and others from the same era) were designed to run on 87 or LESS octane rating.Neither of the additives would make the saws hard to start.Chances are,if they're older points & condenser saws, that the points need to be cleaned & possibly might need a carb rebuild.

I failed to mention that my brother has two orange saws. Therefore no points. He is hesitant to adjust the carb and relies on the dealer. Seems he has the saws to the dealer a lot as opposed to me in that I rarely take a saw to a shop. He has talked to me about getting his old C-72 going that he used to use a lot. Our dad bought it new. I am pretty sure it has a nearly new bar and chain.

Sounds like either your brother's saw shop don't know what they're doing,or they have him right where they want him.I had a saw shop that was doing that to me till I caught on & quit going there, but that was before I got into fixing saws myself.I've found that there isn't one shop that's any better than the other.

Some times I think they will do what ever they can do to get you out the door. Told my brother that he must have flooded the saw and sent him home with the saw.

They didn't even try to get it running? That's a really poor service dept.at that saw shop.If I were your brother I'd start looking for another saw shop even if I had to drive a few miles more.I did that when my local saw shop screwed me over back in 2009.
