I just got time to tear into my LCS. Saw was locked up when I got it. I freed it after some time of letting it soak but the compression was only 90. Decided to put some new rings in it. Took the cylinder off last night. The cylinder and piston look really good but of the 3 rings, one is still completely stuck in the groove and 2 are stuck about half way. What is the best method for breaking these free without damaging the piston?

Soak the thing in a mix of acetone and ATF for several days to a week. Then hope for the best!

If you have or know anyone that has an old vibrating type engraver for marking ID numbers on equipment, they free up those stuck rings really well!
