Hi everyone, hope someone can help me. I have a Homelite XL with a broken case. It's a newer one with the rocker on-off switch rather than the toggle switch. I have not been able to find a new case anywhere. Does anyone here have one which they would be willing to sell? The UT# on mine is 10694 & the Serial # is HN2051541. I would need the engine housing, front handle, trigger & lock, and the handle cover. Otherwise, I've seen non-running older XL's on e-bay for reasonable prices. The question is, would I be able to swap my good motor into an older case with no problems? Thanks in advance!

Hi GDJ!
I have an older style XL similar to yours that is a parts saw. You may be able you swap the engine from one to the other, but your IPL shows a oil pump and a primer bulb that the older ones did not have.
With an entire parts saw you could probably dis convert it to an earlier model XL loosing the primer and going to a pressurised type oil tank rather than having an oil pump.
Again, I think this would work, but without the two saws in hand its difficult to know for sure.

Thanks for the reply RBW. I've got my eye on a couple on ebay. 1 looks just like what I have except it's missing the recoil, primer bulb & side handle. My recoil and primer bulb are still good so I would just need the handle if I get that saw. The other saw I'm watching doesn't show if it has a primer bulb or not. I'll just keep an eye on those saws for now & see what happens. I'll keep you posted.

Hi GDJ-
Your power unit and bar can be put in a older case. I prefer the metal case for obvious reasons, I do this all the time I run about a dozen little red saws (Super 2, XL, XL-2). I have the parts you need in my personnal stock and will talk you through the conversion. If your power unit is in good shape you will get years out of it,

Thanks Treecode, I'll keep that in mind when I decide to work on it. I expect to get very busy at work shortly, so I probably won't be able to work on it until this summer. By the way, I got out bid in the last hour of the ebay auction so that didn't work out the way I expected.
