Hello all,
I'm wondering if one could take the ignition from a SXLAO and swap it to XL-12?

Shouldn't be a problem as long as they're at least roughly the same vintage. Old saws used a breaker point ignition and later models used electronic ignition.
Also if you're talking about a breaker point ignition, you'd have to make sure both saws are using the same ignition manufacturer, Phelon or Wico. If not, you'd have to change the flywheel too.

Ty I did a complete changeover flywheel and all. Had a blue coil on a XL-12 go bad and had a SXLAO with bar studs pulled out so I decided wth and swapped ignition. Not getting any fire though....

So did the SXL have a blue coil too? If it did, it's probably bad as well. Or had it been switched over to the new and improved Phelon electronic ignition? That would be a black one piece ignition coil.
