Has anyone converted their 330 (no chain brake) to a 330SL (with chain brake). I have located a complete chain brake kit and am contemplating making this conversion. It looks like drilling & tapping a couple holes would be required but that should not present any major problems. I welcome any comments.

Thanks, I've watched this video and several others from Leon's channel. Although it explains the chain brake and shows it with the covers off, it's not exactly what I was looking for. I'm more interested in other people's experiences, problems and pitfalls with converting a non-chain brake 330 into one with a chain brake.

It's been a while since I did my 330 (a conversion like you are doing), but I can only remember needed to drill the hole in the drivecase for the part the manual calls the chain brake insert. After that I believe everything else was as simple as bolting it on.

When I get around to completing this modification this winter, I'll document the process and post the photos. Thanks.

To All: My 330 conversion to 330SL has been completed. I was fortunate in finding a nearly complete parts kit from Chainsawr for a resonable price. Two minor parts were missing: Spacer #95295 and Bushing #95494 (parts numbers from the IPL) and these were easily made from misc scrap pieces. I had to drill & tap three holes as shown in the photo and once that was accomplished, the assembly was straight forward. Even the brake lever and torsion spring went into place without a lot cussing despite Leon's warning in his video. Thanks for the tips and if any of you are contemplating this modification, feel free to contact me for tips. But Leon's video and some common sense, along with the parts ofcourse, are all that's needed.

Forgot to mention before: While I had the saw opened up to this point I also added bucking spikes and changed out the worn spur sprocket for a rim sprocket set up.
