Hey C series experts. I want to swap my C-51 drive over to 3/8. The drum to swap over to rim drive is extremely hard to find but I found this spur sprocket. The drum diameter seems right but not sure about the shaft size. Any tips on a cost effective way to do this? My .404 chain is on its dying breath and it’s getting hard to find as well… Any tips or help appreciated! Here the link to the part. www.bantasaw.com/catalog/viewproduct.asp?i=1959&p=2657

What pitch is the .404 that you're having difficulty finding?.063 is plentiful & I know where to get .050 as well (3 different places). What size shaft is on the C51?I'm pretty sure it's a different size than the other C series saws.

If I'm reading correctly , I.P.L. # 24602-2 for a C-72 shows part numbers for 3/8" pitch sprockets along with rim drive clutch drums . They show
the same # 55664 needle bearing and race #55661 for the C-51 and the C-72 so maybe the clutch drums will interchange .

Awesome thanks for the link. I’ve been on the prowl for the Oregon part but they are pretty rare these days. I usually keep my distance from LRB but I’ll give it a try!

Well the drum and rim arrived today. Good to see that you can always depend on LRB for attention to detail and reliability.(that is sarcasm btw) I order a C series drum with 3/8 pitch. This is what they send…? Probably fits but geez….come on.

It does not seem to fit properly. The needle bearing seems yo be just a hair bit too big and the race won’t slide in smooth enough to allow the drum to turn freely. Oh brother.
Does anyone know if there are different races ?

It doesn’t fit my 707D either. Same problem. Bearing doesn’t fit the original bushing. It would be nice if they supplied a bushing that fits their drum.

Well that's not encouraging. Like I mentioned originally, I haven't used one yet, but I was hopeful to have it as an option down the road. The IPL's for all of the saws listed on the box and in the listing show that the 55661 race is common. So it does seem likely that the problem will cover all listed fits. I can't make out the details on the bearing, but it appears to be pressed in? The original 55664 bearing was a Torrington B-910; I wonder if the machining on the new drum would accept it?
I'd contact LRB though and let them know what's going on; it could be a mistake on the one unit or the whole batch. I'd hate to think a product was released without a test fit!
Sorry for leading you down a dead end trail!

Obviously not you fault in any way Leon!
I did send an email to them for advice. My hopes are low for a satisfactory resolution based on my previous experience with this seller.
Possibly it is a simple mix up with packaging seeing as they sent the wrong pitch rim, which in itself is very irritating seeing as I was trying to get rid of .404….
I was actually wondering if I could try to swap the bearing out from a worn out spur sprocket I have. The bearings are pressed in to going to be challenging for sure……

Ok so that LRB drum that I received does have the wrong needle bearing.
The drum will accept the original Torrington bearing that comes in the .404 drum.
As Onlyhomelites pointed out the bearings are pressed in so I heated the drums and drove out the bearings with a socket and my bench vise. And pushed it in with my vise and used a washer against the bearings race.
Once you swap out the bearings the drum fits up as it should.
Not sure if I happen to be the only unlucky one but if anyone else finds themselves in this predicament here’s the way out.

Just purchased another drum. This one works flawless. I guess the other one was one off issue…..? youtu.be/bRr-WRbnWcU
