Is there a problem re-greasing the Rotor Nut Bearings on these saws? The saw has sat for years, very low hour and seems like the grease is just dried up a bit. My thought was to give it a good de-greaser squirt and then a bath in the ultra-sonic cleaner. then some new synthetic grease. polish up the pulley and have at it.
When I first started it, it grabbed the pulley shaft when I shut it off and broke the pull rope.

Assume you're referring to the rotor nut on a 150?
I've never done what you described but I don't know what would be wrong with it. Seems like you really have nothing to lose.
As long as you use a light grease that won't end up gunking up, I'm optimistic.
Maybe someone else that has done it will chime in.

If you wipe starter pulley shaft clean, apply light coat of all-temp / multi-purpose grease to shaft. Do not over-grease . It could effect bearing operation. You could try something like brake clean or carb cleaner to loosen up old crud , use air to blow out.
