HI all, Has anyone tried deleting the gasket between the cylinder and crankcase on a super xl or like saw?

Welcome to HOH! I'm sure someone has tried it...whether they are hear or not is a different story!
Are you looking at performance mod's? Tinman's Saws on Youtube has some great videos on performance upgrades; I'm pretty sure he did a gasket delete on a XL-76 for Buckin Billy Ray (along with a lot of other work). He's got some detailed videos on port timing and figuring out what to do before just taking a wild guess at it.

Thanks,I watch the Tinman all the time. I will have to watch that episode. I am putting a new piston in the sxl and I tore the gasket so I thought I may try the gasket delete. What the heck, I'm going to go for it and see what happens. I'm waiting for my piston to arrive so I will provide an update in a couple weeks.

I recently did a base gasket delete on a Christmas colored Canadian xl automatic, raised the exhaust port as well, I'm not big into modding saws but have piles of these.. Lol anyways it ran great, was pulling strong but then things went sideways, pretty sure some of the rtv I used gave way and caused a massive air leak, gonna tear it apart sometime this winter and invest in better rtv

Having seen some that are looking for a performance increase by raising the compression by deleting the gasket-
There are a number of times that a sealant failure causes problems. Has anyone just milled the crankcase surface down .020-.030" and just use a more reliable gasket to avoid sealing problems? Seems would be a better/more reliable way to do this.

Always had good results using case sealers like threebond, yamabond, etc. Milling sounds perfect, but first problem is just having the proper milling equipment to do the job right. Wish I did, but unfortunately don't. Jigging it square and milling a proper surface is something I'd need alot of schooling to do well.

Having a reliable saw that doesn't blow out the seal is more desirable to me. I have always found a better performance increase with a bigger engine!

for 2 stroke sealants , Permatex Moto Seal is good, but for improved adhesion to plastics ThreeBond 1184 is as good as it gets.

Thanks for all the good advice. I just thought I would give you all an update on the saw project. I used motoseal like the tinman. When I reinstalled the stator plate I couldn't line up the screw that goes into the cylinder. I had to drill out the hole in the stator plate to get the machine screw to line up. I also used motoseal on the intake so the handle screws would line up. I still haven't completed the carb rebuild, but when I test it out I'll post an update.
