1st post, hope I'm in the right area. The muffler on my faithful old Homelite is starting to hurt my ears, and I'm looking for a replacement. Called Homelite support and got the following part number 9398308, but he said it was a best guess. Looking for something that will fit that's availble in Canada. Any help or suggestions are appreciated. Attachments:

Any help or suggestions are appreciated. Welcome to the House of Homelite ! There appears to be some misalignment between the muffler-cap and muffler-body, which could allow exhaust noise to escape. Is the baffle present in the muffler ? Missing, it will contribute to more noise. The complete muffler assembly is part# A-78512 ... but don't see any available, unfortunately. Muffler Body: A-68460-1A Shoulder Screw: 68480 Screw Washer: 78312 Side Note: +UT:50156 ( XL-AO ) SN:T8101042 .. DOM: 1981 , has been added to the HOMELITE-TERRY UT List as an earlier Serial Numbered ( by year ) unit.. credited to you. Thanks !

As an option you could use the A-94219-A muffler kit, with or without the A's in the part number.
It's the latest and quietest style, little different from what you have/had.
These shouldn't be hard to come up with from a donor saw that's been parted out. There were tons of Super XL's sold over the years.

I may have a used muffler…..but I’ll have to double check. The one I have is from an old Blue Super XL.

I am missing a bolt in the muffler, but not sure if they had any baffle material in it or if is it just the metal plate inside. Just thought it was time to show the old girl some love, it's worked harder this year than ever before (I bought it used 25 years ago). Not a museum piece yet ;-) Thanks for the part numbers. Appreciate the quick response here. Here's a pic of the stump that it just sawed through. Attachments:

Appreciate the quick response here. Here's a pic of the stump that it just sawed through. The shoulder screw and washer part numbers are for the one missing muffler bolt of three that retain the muffler cap. They're available at : leonschainsawpartsandrepair.com ( Style 1 muffler bolt ) You'll need a muffler body if the tab for the muffler bolt is broken off and missing... or weld on a tab/nut. Couple muffler bodies on eBay ... The baffle is just the perforated metal plate, if it's there you're good to go. This style of muffler was supposedly "quieter" than the previous 1972 design.
