The shift on my transmission is frozen. I only use the tractor once or twice a year, to till, and when I went to do some fall cleanup and planting, it was jammed. I got it free to go in reverse, but then it jammed again.
I have found parts diagrams, but it would be helpful if there were videos or discussions on tearing this down and rebuilding it. Are there even parts?

So you just have the straight 3 speed with reverse gearbox? No shuttle shift?

I believe there is a high and low gear in addition to the 3 forward and one reverse, but don't think it works and I never used it.

I had one with the shifter jamming years ago. There are roll pins at the top of the transmission that control shifter travel, 4 in total if I recall correctly, one for each gear. There are set screws accessible from the outside of the transmission that hold these roll pins tight. One of the set screws had came loose and let one of the roll pins move and made it very difficult to move the shifter.
You might clean up the top of the transmission and look for those set screws. I'm not sure if merely tightening a loose screw, if that's the problem, would help or if you might need to slide a roll pin back in alignment first. I don't recall if the roll pins were accessible from the outside or not. That was about 30 years ago.
What I do recall is pulling the entire transmission/rearend from the tractor, splitting it and finding that loose set screw and roll pin. Then I thought wow, I could have fixed that in 3 minutes had I just known what was wrong.

Wow. Super helpful suggestion. I can't wait to try it. How hard was it to pull thr transmission?

It's a fair job. It's basically everything behind the bevel gearbox. So pull the fender/seat assy, pull the tires/wheels. Remove all the linkage then remove bolts from the side plates. I don't recall without looking if any sheaves or the brake drum have to come off to get the side plates off. Then you can lift the heavy hulk up on a work bench for disassembly.

Are there parts available?

Now that I have no idea, certainly not from Homelite though. If you need parts, probably your only bet for new parts would be through a Simplicity dealer although I have no idea if they're still supplying parts for old models. You might be stuck with used parts. Might need to just pick up a scrapper for parts.
