Hello everybody , my first post ! Hope this subject has not been adressed before ... I have a XL-2 (Canada made ) with the Walbro HDC-15 carburetor ; The idle adjustment screw seems out of use; when let the saw running off throttle trigger , it dies eventually , other then that, running fine; So i did try to adjust the idle screw to let the throttle opens a bit, and notice that the idle srew does not touch at all (the conical end of the screw i mean) the lever-part of the throttle stop ; ie : even if i turn the screw all the way in or out , no effect on the throttle since not touching the stop lever ... I think ,maybe, that the previous owner force it too much and damage this lever ; What i am not sure is how come this adj. works : since the screw is going downward , what is it suppose to do when making contact with the lever ; Maybe i should order the lever ( part 69519 Homelite ) but i wonder how it is possible to damage this part ?? Thanks for your advice

Welcome to HOH! If the idle speed screw never touches any part of the throttle lever, the throttle lever must be damaged or broken. As to how that could happen, it's anyone's guess...but it definitely isn't a normal wear item! The idle speed screw should have a tapered tip so that it slowly opens the throttle as it is screwed down. Any chance you can post a pic or two of what's happening?

Thanks sir for your reply; You are right, the tapered end of the screw-tip does not touch the lever in any position. so I think somehow this lever has been damaged (too much force ?) I will order the lever if i can find it : I found out that not too many Walbro does have this idle screw type going downward without spring around the screw ... Maybe the HDC-65 is similar .. Maybe.

HDC-15.HEIC (490.68 KB) Just make sure you re-bend the lever to touch the screw right above the threaded boss where the adj screw tip comes out. You likely do not need a new lever nor throttle shaft.

Well, things are not too good for me now.. Yes it seems that Hotshot is right : I probably did not need a new lever at all : I just receive my order from Leon' s (2 Stop levers) and it seems i did order for nothing: Exactly the same problem as before : the stop idle screw adjustment is unable to touch at all the lever (even full screw in ) The new levers are exactly the same as the one i had .... I am really lost now... Can somebody explain me how this screw is SUPPOSE to reach and touch the side of the lever please... I do not see anything bend or else.. And also Hotshot , i am unable to open your picture (or video .?) So please help ! Thanks

We really need a picture of what you have. It's possible the idle speed screw is from a different model HDC carburetor; there were several different screws used. The pic hotshot linked is below: HDC-15 (3) by Admin Admin, on Flickr

Any chance that the throttle is not going shut correctly? Pretty common when the throttle valve has been removed from the throttle shaft and reinstalled incorrectly. Also linkage can be bent or improperly installed and cause the throttle not to close correctly. Maybe the throttle is being held open by one of these issues and it's being loaded up on fuel to help keep it idled down then floods out and dies? Just some other stuff that I've seen over the years.
But I agree some pictures couldn't hurt.

Yes , thanks; It seems that the linkage rod is bent a little.. I will dismantle the whole saw and come back to you all .. PS: Really hard to take a good picture of the lever as of now, since the unit is not dismantle yet..
