Hi gang, My name is Gerad Allen Blume and I am a historian from Aiken, South Carolina. I am Vice President of the Hangar Thirteen Foundation, a 501c3 nonprofit in Asheville, North Carolina that is rebuilding a Boeing B-17F heavy bomber from the Second World War. This aircraft, "Lucky Thirteen" (42-3455, 384BG), was shot down over Beauvais, France on 6 September 1943. We are a small group but what we lack in size we make up for in uncompromising dedication to accuracy. I come to you in the hopes of finding help with the aircraft's Auxiliary Power Unit (APU). Being an F model B-17, much of the equipment we need is older than what is typically found on the collector's market. The APU on F-model B-17s, for example, was not an HRU-28A but an HRU-28. The primary difference is, as far as I can tell, the manner in which the handle attaches to the housing. We were wondering if anyone out there had an HRU-28 that they would like to see go toward this project. It would also be a great help if the HRU-28's manual could be located. And, if anyone should one to volunteer with this project, they would be certainly welcome. Many of our volunteers work from home - the beauty of internet technology. Feel free to check out our website - www.HangarThirteen.org - to learn more about us, or visit our Facebook page. Hope you like what you see! -G
