Hi guys, this is what happens when your “browsing” on marketplace… I see elite on a saw, I can’t read the first number, it says automatic under the number, but it looks like it has a manual oiler on the left side of the handle… Anybody able to narrow it down? I told him I would text him in the morning and run over. About a 30 minute drive. And it runs . Nice bar and chain. The CAD is kicking in…. Thanks R&R

I asked the seller to send me a picture of the serial number plate. It’s a XL-400. If it actually runs its probably a good deal at $40. I checked Acres forum and sure enough it has the manual oiler too. Thanks for taking a look undee70ss.

I've got an XL-400 that I got for $20.It took a little work & a few parts here & there.I couldn't get the dang saw to run worth a hill of beans, then last yr.I pulled the reeds out & found one was broken.I replaced it & it was a world of difference. Now I gotta replace the seals.

I wound up succumbing to my addiction... It wouldn't start so I got it for $25.00 Except.. It also came with two Stihl chains, One still in the box, One on the saw. And 1 other new chain in the box, and a smaller chain I dont think goes with the saw. It has a 20 inch Charleton Pro-Champ bar (Which I hope will fit my Stihl too) The original sales ticket from 1973. An IPL, 2 Original booklets from Homelite that came with the saw new, and another booklet about chain saws, sharpening, care-for, etc. I decided $40 was a fair price, so I'm sending him and additional $15...Golden Rule... The saw hasn't even sputtered, so I have drained the gas,(Maybe a good thing it didn't start because I don't know what the mix was the seller put in it.) I couldn't even get the gas cap off! So in the next few days I'll clean it up a little. You can tell it's been sitting, but the carburetor area is very clean, so I'm hopeful with new gas, a little squirt in the cylinder, and were off to the races. Pictures will follow when I remember how to do them. Nice looker, I like the chrome pull start cages...

Here's my newest, XL 400 Couldn't wait a few days to try starting it...CAD...I dumped out the old gas, refilled with fresh new. Checked the spark. Squirted a little gas in the carb, and after a few pull, it fired, and then it ran! WOOHOO! Idles pretty good. Plug will be replaced. I took the chain off to verify the oiler, and manual, both work. Now all I need is a log somewhere to try it out on...;-( Overall I think I got a deal...doesn't happen very often..LOL This saw is very similar to a few XL-12's I had, but never got running....

Yes, but I might be mistaken. Seems like a little knob somewhere below throttle

YES! No wonder it felt so hard to pull...I think it was out when I tried starting it yesterday.. So I push it in when I want to start the saw, and it pops out when the saw starts running correct? I admit it. I'm really a rookie, not a Sawyer. My Super EZ has a release. That tells you how often I use that saw... Thanks Ronaldt!

It's kinda hidden in between the spark plug shield and the manual oiler housing

There is a kit that actuated the decompressor when you locked the throttle. I have one. Probably take me a day to find it.
