Does anyone have any insights to why the factory put a washer on the end of the fuel line at the filter attachment? The Super EZ/ Mini saws used a #64182 washer. Seems to not really be needed??

I believe it was used as an added weight to help keep the filter at the bottom of the tank. Not much extra weight though IMO.

I do not believe it was for weight, I always thought is was there to keep the filter element from creeping upwards off the bottom of the filter housing so no dirt or crud got sucked up freely into the carb. If you remove the washer you can slide the element right off the filter housing. JMHO...

I believe Darryl has it right, the washer that homelite used was aluminum.
