the cap leaks fuel a bit when turned on its side...so....s
so i poked a dentist pick into the hole from the underside of the gas cap and when i removed it, it was covered in black goo.
is an ice pick or similar the tool to use to pry out the brass filter so i can replace the old duckbill valve? i don't want to damage that brass filter plug.
edit1: i found this video that shows how to change the duckbill out, guess that answers most of my question.
edit2: that is some difficult to clean primordial ooze from that dissolved duckbill. mineral spirits, thinner, were basically useless. denatured alcohol was ok but carb cleaner worked the best. and a lot of q-tips and a few tooth picks. took a few soaks of the brass filter too before it quit seeping that black ooze.

Yes just get something sharp like a pick against the brass filter and pop it out. Then you can dig out what's left of the rubber goo and put the new duckbill in.
