On a governed carb ,How significant is the air deflector on 900 series saws ? Over a standard style filter mount .

It's there to catch fuel that spits back at high speeds. They all do this up to a point, but the 900's are well known for spitbackand even a governed carb will do this. The filter catches the fuel and as it evaporates, it's drawn back into the engine. It's not going to kill your saw to not have it, but the airbox will likely get messy a bit quicker.
