Thanks for your reply. I have never done any parts replacement, aside from spark plug and chains. I bought the saw new in early '79 and I had to think about it, but the last time I ran it was probably close to 15 years ago. Being in relatively great condition I would like to restore it if possible. Do you know if there are correct replacement coils available for purchase and where to find them? Thanks again - Brian

I don’t fully understand the full context of this post. Looks like it may have been moved here? It’s hard to really understand the tone that someone is trying to convey in their text but to me that sounded really negative rude and condescending. Possibly you were simply trying to be funny?
The guy was asking for help and your reply didn’t seem overly helpful....just saying.
If I got a reply like that my first time asking for help I wouldn’t bother coming back here.

Their is possibility of at least 3 different Magneto coils used on the EZ's. Magneto coils rarely fail on the EZ's unless it the electronic type and baking the coil to restore is kinda in same category as peeing into the wind. If it's a bad Wico/Prestolite electronic (all termed blue coil of death type) I can tell you a less than $20 reliable fix.
Wico/Presolite and they had points type and electronic type coils. (not interchangeable)
Phelon ignition was also used.
Does yours have points and do you see any name on the flywheel. Do you see a serial number or maybe a UT number on a tag?
