It's one of the 900 series. Can't really tell from the pics.

If the clutch cover is original, I'm not buying the 923 part...903 maybe.

Thanks guys, I'll find out tomorrow when it arrives. The clutch cover was what was giving me trouble too.

So I received the saw today and Leon was correct, it's a 903. First off it was sent with the bar attached so the box was 30" long, bubble wrapped and packing peanuts. Bar oil was left in it so it leaked all over the saw but started the cleaning process. Took off the muffler and poured straight 2 stroke oil in and moved it w/ decomp in and it lubed nicely. No spark at first but eventually it happened so I closed her up and tried for compression, we'll I think I dislocated a few fingers because she is really tight. Pictures to follow.

Good news! Can’t wait to see some cleaned up pics!
I can relate with the dislocated fingers. Every time I use my xl-98 I almost dislocate some part of my hand/arm/shoulder. Still need to run a comp test on it but betting it’s high!

That brace is an interesting accessory. Any ideas on manufacturer or when they were available? Seems that would be a good way to break the starter housing or case though!

Not sure if it is even a Homelite accessory

I've never seen the brace in a IPL. It's more likely it was fabbed up when some of the rubber grommets or screws on the bottom of the tank failed and the handle started flopping around. The early schemes to reduce vibration with rubber insulators around fasteners frequently made the handle feel loose even when new. Worn out, the handle would flop around like a fish out of water.
