Is there any good way to judge clutch wear on a S-clutch? There are no wear mark indicators or methods that I can determine. My current one has contact wear patterns of about 2/3 of the shoe lengths. Appreciate any ideas anyone may have!

That's probably about normal. They never wear evenly. What kind of saw?

XL Super Mini- This is an S-clutch that expands on the leading side only, so it is expected to wear on the tip and taper back. Seems that it is hard to determine how much wear/life remains. I'm thinking that the leading edge is the spot to gauge wear.

I never saw wear being as big a problem on the S clutches as simply breaking into 2 pieces. An S clutch would wear quite some time but I'm sure they do wear out. The new 3 shoe replacement clutches on the other hand, don't wear nearly as well. They don't seem to come apart so that's a plus but the shoes don't seem to be very hard.
My son has been cutting up a lot of posts this month, usually nothing more than 4-5" diameter, so he's figured out that running a Super 2 all day is much easier than his normal 360's. He put a new 3 shoe clutch on one of our Super 2's a few days ago and when he had the sprocket back off of a couple of days ago he noticed the clutch was almost worn out already. It was somewhere between 1 and 2 weeks old. He averages a couple hundred posts a day but hadn't cut nearly every day, probably about 3 days a week.

Really interesting information. I appreciate the practical experience info! Sounds like replacing the drum/sprocket may be more of an issue with the S-clutch
