Hi gang,I picked up another XL-123 from Feebay. It's got good compression, but no spark. It's missing the manual oil pump plunger button & has a broken shoulder bolt in the muffler. The saw looks to have had little use.I already tried eliminating the kill switch & it still has no spark,so it's probably in the points/condenser.This should be a fun project down the road.I have to get caught up on some other saws first though.

Since the weather was inclement here today,I got a chance to get into the 123.I pulled the muffler & sure enough the shoulder bolt was broke off in the muffler body.I had to put heat on the one that was left & I thought if the other person who broke the bolt would've done the same it wouldn't have gotten broke. The piston & cylinder look pristine. I then popped off the flywheel & had a look at the points, they were pretty ugly - black & burnt.I cleaned them up the best I could (I had to take the points apart to clean them) & put them back in with a new condenser & had no spark when I was finished.Tomorrow I'll try a chip to see if the coil is any good.I've got new points coming that I just bought on Feebay.I can't seem to find a new muffler body anywhere, part # A64130-2.

Ed, Leon has one listed as a 64130-1 but the picture shows 64130-2. Might have him check that out. www.leonschainsawpartsandrepair.com/store/p8390/NOS_Homelite_XL-101,_XL-102,_XL-103,_XL-104,_XL-113,_XL-114,_XL-122_Chainsaw_Muffler_Body_A-64130-1.html

Yeah Charles,I saw that & didn't think it was for my saw as it wasn't listed for a 123,plus the part # difference.

I was in need of a muffler body for the 123,so I ordered one from Leon. It's taking it's good old sweet time getting here.I was supposed to have it yesterday & still didn't get it today.Regardless,I was rumaging through one of my parts totes looking for a totally different part & lop & behold,I found myself holding a brand new A68893 complete muffler assembly that I'd bought about 2 yrs.ago & had forgotten about.I remembered paying $20 for it & my plan was to put it on an XL-101.I put the newly fopund muffler on the 123 & it fit perfectly.I got the entire assembly - body, baffle, cap, mounting screws,& shoulder screws.

Since I got a snow day here in W.N.Y. & couldn't go out cutting wood,I thought it'd be a good day to work on the 123.I put new points & new condenser in the saw & finally got spark on it.I got a new oiler button for it & went to put that on & found that the oil pump plunger must've gotten broken off with the button,so I've got a new one on the way.Now to go out & give this saw a prime & listen to it roar back to life after most likely decades of lying dormant.

I got the saw to fire on a prime, but after looking it over more I found the fuel line to be in dire need of being replaced.I found the correct size line for it,now I need to find a grommet for the fuel tank.I believe a 68046 is the correct one to use.I was a little surprised to find a Tillotson carb on this saw.My other 123 has a Walbro carb on it.I do prefer the Tillotson carbs as I think they're a much better carb.

I'm going through the same thing on a vi200, did the points yesterday, today playing with fuel system, this thing has crazy compression, 185 psi gonna be a good one when done

Good luck on your VI200 Kevin! I put a new fuel line in the saw today & a new filter.Must be the previous owner just kept adding fuel filters when they fell off the deteriorated line.I tipped the saw over to empty out the fuel I'd put in it yesterday & 3 filters came out, along with the original that I took off.One of the filters was mine,so there were 3 in the tank that weren't mine,Lol.I got the saw to run somewhat, but it won't idle.I'll let it set overnight & see if the diaphragms swell up again, but chances are I'll need to pull the carb for a rebuild.I haven't checked mine yet for compression, but I know it's up there.I'll check it once I get the saw running.

This 200 ..must have sat for alone time took carb off there was a pile off black goo where fuel line should be.. have had lots of homelites where fuel line dissolved in tank but first time I seen it completely dissolved in air box, but hopefully weekend is warm enough in Edmonton to try it out

I need some herlp in figuring out what's wrong with the carb on thios saw.Normally I take the carb off, clean it up & then put a rebuild kit in it & it's good to go.Not this one,it's a Tilly HS132A.The metering lever is set as it should be & the seat for the needle is sparkly clean.I put the gaskets & diaphragms in the correct order, but when I put the carb on the saw it's sop rich that it can only sputter a bit, then the plug is fouled out. This thing is about to get tossed.

Did you use a new metering needle? Had one he kit where the needle was the wrong length and cause flooding

Yes,new needle used & they were the same length.I check them after having problems with other carbs & kits.

That's strange, usually when I have carb issues on a saw it's because they have walbro carbs, random question, is there any chance oil was put into crankcase to free it up at some point? Had that happen once new saw it had fuel it had spark but the previous owner dumped oil in it for whatever reason and when every time I tried starting it plug would foul with oil, just a thought

No oil in crankcase. The saw ran a little bit before I pulled the carb.It acted like it was starving for fuel. When I pulled the carb apart I found the metering diaphragm was stuck to the cover.I've seen that before & just freed it up & put it back together & it worked fine, not this time,so I pulled the carb again & put a new kit in it.It got worse with a new kit in it,go figure.I'm calling VE Petersen on Mon.to see if they've got either a new HS132,or a Walbro SDC31.I also have a Walbro SDC33 that came off a Remington SL4 59cc saw.The venturi are the same on the 31 & 33,but the 33 doesn't have the accelerator pump.

I'm a Tilly guy myself - normally, but the HS132A that's on the XL-123 is giving me fits.I'll do the Walbro as a last resort.I'll see what VE Petersen has for a Tilly first,if that's a bust then I'll take you up on your offer. Thanks! You're from Canada, right? The shipping is usually a killer, but I might not have any other choice.

I've never come accross one the xl-130 and xl-76 and similar always have a 125a/b that are governed

That's another possibilty I thought of,I've got an HS125 that some jackass put on a Pioneer Farmsaw.I think the HS125 was too small for the Farmsaw (66cc).I thought about trying the HS125 on the XL-123,but it has really short needles.I don't know if the HS132 is governed or not.

The hs125 will work great with the 123, but being governed I find I have to lean the high jet a little much for comfort, here in Edmonton at 2200' usually need those set at 1/2-3/4 turns out
