Well I'm just full of questions as of late it seems! haha Working on this cherry Super ez for a friend and got it running but man she was running erratic. Doing my old not fully reliable trick of checking for leaks with brake cleaner while running I found that the saw instantly died with the slightest amound of brake clean near the decomp. Upon further inspection I found that the cylinder mounted to the saw cylinder is loose. Is there any way of pulling that out completely and plugging it or am I looking for a new cylinder for them? As you can see the coating is chipped and it almost looks cracked. 20210310_204213 by TJ McCauley, on Flickr 20210310_204229 by TJ McCauley, on Flickr

TJ,if you're talking about plugging off the decomp entirely you're looking at tearing up the recoil/starter.The SEZ saws are a high compression engine, now couple that with a cheaply made recoil & you're looking at a disaster to the recoil.I know it's a PITA to change out the cylinder, but I don't see any other recourse.

Right:
As edu1958 indicates. the decompression is needed on those saws and normally it does leak some when running and when trying to do a pressure test of the crankcase, but normally the leak is not enough to upset the running and idling. Looks like maybe that one was run quite a bit with a severe leak and got ruined or maybe someone has molested it. They are normally not a replaceable item and that one appears to not be repairable AND if you found the cylinder base gasket leaking WHICH IS COMMON on the older EZ's and you tighten the 4 1/2 inch base nuts and the cylinder base gasket still leaks the cylinder has to come off the saw anyway for a new base gasket.
You can just leave the piston in place pull off the cylinder and install base gasket and another cylinder. the bottom of the cylinder is tapered and the piston normally refits easily. I seem to remember that some of the pistons may have a ring locating pin (not sure) so make sure the ring is not setting on top of the locating pin when going back or you will break the ring. To get to the 4 cylinder nuts take a old cheap 12 point box end wrench and thin it down on a grinder and keep it cool and save the wrench for the next one.

Well I am the owner of the saw now haha So I'll be working on getting a new cylinder, base gasket, and crank seals for sure. Thanks guys!

Congratulations on becoming the owner of yet another SEZ! Did you ever finish the resto you were doing to the other SEZ?I don't know if you've ever run an SEZ,but they're great little saws!

It appears that the muffler gasket was leaking and splattering exhaust onto the compression release exterior in the picture. (instead of the compression release pintle valve itself having a serious leak)
Seems minor but not really minor. Keep a heads up caution about the muffler screws. Also I would look carefully at the TWO short muffler screws threads before using them on another cylinder, sometimes the two that are above and below the piston will have galled FINE threads and strip out easily going into the aluminum especially if the threads are not good on the screws or the cylinder. They also will strip out if they have been run loose and threads exhaust galled in the aluminum. I use anti-seize on them and carefully snug them, sometimes one will strip out. I seem to remember the 3rd one being longer.

I did get that other sez going and I uploaded a video onto facebook. Used to do alot of youtube videos but I lack the time to edit and my internet sucks when it comes to uploading. I'll work on getting a video up for sure though.
