Hello Homelite fans, working on a SXL-925 (as on tag) 10415B A Terry saw ,it is in need of a piston. it is 2 1/16" bore . The rings are standard , not the thin ring style , there is a bridge in the exhaust port . It has a plug , no compression release . It is clear this saw was rebuilt many moons ago ,there is a casting # 67458A on it. Would this be original or possibly a 923, 924 cylinder ? This saw has a 3 bolt exhaust port. If replacing ,what different model cylinders would fit this saw ? Thank you , for any info .

The cylinder has a plug installed where a compression release would go , if it had one.

My SXL-925 doesn't have a compression release on it either and it's a Terry saw.

sxl925'S NEVER HAD A COMPRESSION release from the factory. Thanks Greg,I'm glad you pointed that out bc I was going to.They never had compression releases on them bc of the timing with the electronic ignitions.

Here is a picture of cylinder styles you can use. All are 2 1/16 bore. The first is XL923 or 924. Second is a replacement for the first style. Third is a SXL 925 cylinder. Since you have the decomp. plug you can use the first two. All three can use the thick ring piston but you can only use the thin ring piston on the oval port cylinders. Replacement thick ring piston kit: A-67989-1 ... some at Leon's and eBay . Some good candidates of cylinders from Clasec above . Also the non-decomp. XL-924 W : A-68913-1 , VI-955 : A-68980-1 .

Thank you Clasec and 5terrysaws for cylinder and parts answers . With cylinder replacement possibly in earlier history and it not being a 925 cylinder . Clasec that is a good photo comparing those cylinders , and there port styles .

I t may have been used on other models as well. I'm not sure. As far as which others will fit on your saw; I have swapped quite a few around and they all fit. I did not keep track of the part numbers. It might be easier if you found a cylinder for sale and then asked the question.

Interesting trivia, (at least to me), Clasec's photo shows red self-locking Helicoils in the far right cylinder. They are not so common on the retail market but a good idea in chainsaws. The center coil in the insert is formed "square" to grip the bolt threads.

Homelite recommended rebuilding with a 2 inch bore.

I was going to mention it but I feel bad because every time I do someone else goes and looks up the TSB. But yeah, the big bore with the oval port and thin rings seemed to be the configuration that was prone to cooking the rings until the temper was gone.
