I have two of these B-17/B-24 Bomber auxilary units here in Switzerland.
One has a bad coil and would like to replace it. Number on it is barely visible and I assume it should read: Wico X4658 Any help regarding possible aftermarket coils or crossreference would be appreciated.
Looking also for a 24V "Homelite"Voltmeter which is missing on one.
Got the one pictured running after fitting the good coill from the second unit and cleaning, tank and carb. The fuelfilter was completly clogged from dirt. After cleaning I saw it's made from small brass discs and oxydation between them kept preventing enough fuel going through. So the unit stoped after ca. 20 secs every time.

Looks like that might be a 8 size engine. I don't know what that means but the engine was used on a lot of different machines. Can you post a picture of the data plate with model number etc on it? How about a couple more pictures from different angles that show the engine. That would help identify what model you have and what parts fit it.
Nice stuff!
Welcome to the House of Homelite.

This units were nearly the same as the ones used in WW2 tanks which were called HRUH-28. Found the data from such one on the web. I have no manuals for the aviation HRU-28.

As for the magneto coil I have just finished retrofitting a lawn mower magneto coil to and Amplion 300 wat genset. It entailed adjusting the centre leg of the magneto to fit the lawn mower coil. It takes time but works. remember to use the condenser that goes with the magneto coil or the system will notwork verywell. Regards, John

The coil picture is not that great. The last time I needed a Wico coil, I bought this Standard Brand S9-606 coil. I pressed out the laminate core and used my original. You can see in the picture, they also offer a couple of Phelon type coils; One has 2 little wires and the other 1 little wire. I hope this helps, Wico coil by MR Huns, on Flickr
