I traded some old 2 man engines (mall and Merc/disston) for a XL-800 yesterday. The saw looks complete. One thing I didn't notice until this morning is that the tank has a bead of weld on it. I'm aware that earlier big xl tanks we're bonded and then later bolted. I assume someone did this to fix a leak? Attachments:

There are quite a few out there that are welded that would leave me to believe that some are factory welds to fix already bonded tanks in inventory.

That makes sense! The tank on mine doesn't appear to have been repainted which might indicate a factory job. Also, the serial number tag on top sits right next to the weld. The tag would get damaged if someone welded it later and mine looks fine. Must have been a factory deal

I have noticed more and more of these welds that appear factory, many with nice original paint over the weld. Most appear us built, but I have a 701 with the same thing.
