Hello all,
I recently received a 26 LCS that has sat in my dad's old garage under a bench for approximately 40 years. At this point, I've cleaned it up to start the work to get it running. I bought and installed a new starter cable and will be buying new fuel lines as the current ones are split by the fittings. The spark plug lead is also split in two. I spliced the wire and replaced the old Champion J-8J plug with a new Champion J8C plug but am not getting spark. Has anyone seen a video or does anyone have advice on the best way to access the starting end of the lead, the switch lead and the magneto assembly? I have limited experience, so I appreciate any advice.
Thank you, tobe74

Welcome to House of Homelite and nice saw. You're going to need to remove the flywheel to access the points and condenser to clean them up, you'll see where the wire goes into the coil so you can twist it out because it's on a small screw inside the housing. Also pull the lead to the ignition switch to rule that out. If you go to this site www.leonschainsawpartsandrepair.com/store/c1/Featured_Products.htmlGo to the menu in the top left and look for parts diagram and find the 26LCS. It'll aid you with tear down and reassembly also has the IPL for part #'s.

There will be plenty of guys who can offer plenty of assistance with the restore. If you can post pictures of your progress it helps.

Mark Price has a Ebay site and offers repop fuel lines that are an exact match to the originals.

Thanks guys! Definitely fun to get the dirt off this thing and start bringing it back to life! Dad said it last ran in 1975. I got the starter cable from Mark and have since ordered the fuel lines and pulley cover from him as well. Great guy! Will get the fly wheel off soon and hopefully can get the points and condenser cleaned up. Mark led me to a carb kit at Discount Marine Parts and is on its way. Hope to have it running soon! Really appreciate the support!

If you can't find a proper sparkplug wire you can use a auto part store one to get it going, they sell singles in 5-7mm

Make sure any spark plug wire you get is "solid core" with a copper center , not resistor wire .

Thank you Charles - do you think I made the right cross reference replacing the original Champion J8J with Champion J8C?

Hello - I was able to get the fly wheel off last night. There is continuity through the plug lead, the switch works and continuity at the points when closed...no spark. It has a WICO X8807 condenser - is there a way to test these or is it likely shot after sitting for 45 years without running? Thank you for any guidance.

If you have a multimeter there are plenty of videos that show how to test. I would buy a few and try them.
