Engineers being engineers, created a lot of confusion for XL-101 (As well as XL-102, XL-103 and XL-104 owners) when it comes time to repair/replace the clutch. My current understanding: Apparently early built XL-101 units up until 1969 or so, used a smaller 2 3/4" 3 shoe clutch. This was later switched to a 3" clutch in the same configuration, though all parts (spider/backing plate, shoes, springs and idler bearing(?)) were different. The larger 3" clutches started to be used on the 102-104 saws at some point, and then later were used on the XL-101 units. It was recommended to replace any 2 3/4" clutches with the larger 3" components when time for a new one. I have a early 2 3/4" clutch on my XL-101. It has a replacement 2 3/4" Oregon clutch drum/rim that has a pressed in idler bearing (Oregon #12001). This bearing requires a different size race/sleeve than the original configuration??? Originally #65965 or #63990 races were used depending on which original hub type was used! I am trying to find the correct race to use with the Oregon drum/hub on an XL-101 chainsaw. Any ideas on what the correct part would be??

Think I have an answer. The one I need to replace measures up .560 OD, .437 ID and .525 wide. I had someone measure up a Homelite #63990 and it looks to be the correct part. Hope this post may help others out there.
