Would like to to ask the forum what is the proper lubrication info for the overriding bearing used on the C series's and XPs. I've looked through the service bulletins printed for the years that this recoil system was used, came up empty handed. My thoughts were a very light smear of lithium grease. Anyone up to training this old dog the right way?

I've just run into the same situation with my XP-1000.I gave it a very light shot of WD40,the grease that was in the over riding bearing was quite old & stiff & I figured the WD40 would help to soften it up a bit.Maybe I'm wrong?I'd tend to lean towards your idea though with the lithium grease.

When I reassembled the recoil, it got a new bearing, the race was buffed and polished, and the rest of parts got a nice hot bath in the sonic cleaner. I thought that Homelite would state somewhere in their literature how the bearing was maintained. Any and all greases will harden with age, so I don't mind doing a full cleaning every year or two. I'll try the lithium. Thanks for chiming in Ed, stay safe.
